There come times in our lives, when our buckets are empty; but it takes just one drop, for God to start slowly re-filling our buckets again.
In March, I spent a weekend up at our family property, three hours north of us. At the time, it was maple syrup season & I wasn’t going to miss out on a chance to be part of our growing tree-tapping operation (about 15 trees). We got on our boots & headed up the road to check the buckets. Lily would excitedly, run up to the tree and look at the bucket hanging there, collecting our liquid gold. The buckets had been slowly filling one drop at a time all week. That evening, we gathered what sap we had, & left our empty buckets hanging, ready for another warm spring day.
One Drop At A Time
The next morning after breakfast, Mom & I checked to see how our buckets were doing. We laughed & chatted as we wander up the road, checking our buckets. The air was warm, & the sap was flowing. We stood in silence listening to the drip, drip, drip of the sap. One drop at a time, our buckets were filling.
Looking back, I realize I was a lot like those slow-filling buckets – I was an empty bucket needing to be filled. March had been a tough & painful month. The whole drive up to the property that weekend, I had cried, broken-hearted & hurting; I felt empty. As I listened to the sap dripping, watched Lily rolling in the little snow remaining, & soaked up the sun, my bucket started to re-fill. At that moment, I was reminded of how beautiful God’s creation is, how He spoke each thing into being; nothing happening was by mistake. Slowly, one drop at a time, God was filling my bucket.
It will take time for my bucket to become full again, but one drop at a time, it will slowly fill.
“May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that by the power of the Holy Spirit you may abound in hope.”
