Start 2021 on the right foot by taking time this January to tackle the holiday mess by breaking it down into smaller projects with a home refresh.
After the holidays, our homes can look like a bit of a mess. We enjoy time off, spend time with family and relax our routines. I know there are areas of my home that have become cluttered, and since Ontario is in another lockdown, I will be spending more time in my house, and I think it could use a good refresh.
Tackling organizing an entire home is an overwhelming task, so I broke it down into daily tasks and offering that calendar to you to join in the home refresh. To help to tackle these tasks, here are some simple tips you can use.
Step One: Declutter & Donate
Over the holidays, we have all gained some new items. Take time before you tackle each space to look at what can be donated or thrown away. If you struggle with decluttering, I recommend with none sentimental objects to ask yourself if you have touched that item in the past year. If you haven’t touched it, you could probably let it go.
Step Two: Clean
You might be cleaning out spaces you haven’t cleaned since you moved in. Take time to wipe out shelves, dust and deep clean each area as you organize it.
Step Three: Divide into Categorize & Contain
Group like items together and put them into boxes, baskets or containers. It is so easy to try to make your space look like The Home Edit with every container matching and picture-perfect but containing doesn’t have to be like that right away. You can reuse jars, shipping boxes or plastic containers and over time slowly switch things out to create beautiful spaces.
Step Four: Refresh
Now that your space is organized and cleaned, add a little personal touch. Switch out old photos, add a plant or rearrange your decor to refresh your space.
Each day as you tackle different spaces in your home, I hope these tips and the January Refresh calendar help you start 2021 better than you finished 2020.
