A few weeks ago, I went to a local apple orchard with a friend, and I notice they still had pick your own raspberries on. When I got home with my bag full of fresh apples, I realized I had lots of frozen raspberries. So I thought, let’s try to make Slow Cooker Raspberry Applesauce.
What You Need
The ingredients for Slow Cooker Raspberry Applesauce is pretty simple. All you need is apples, frozen raspberries, an apple peeler corer, a slow cooker and a blender.
If At First, You Don’t Succeed Try Try Again
This recipe took a few tries before I got it right. I tried adding a cup of water the first time, and the result was very runny apple sauce, but it tasted great. So I reduced the water to 1/2 cup, and still runny. So I tried with no water added, and it turned out just right. I used very fresh McIntosh apples, and a lot of juices were coming off of them. There is a lot of water that comes off the frozen raspberries, so there was no need for the extra water. If you notice your apples aren’t very juicy, I recommend adding 1/2 cup of water.
Putting It All Together
I love simple recipes with very few steps, and this recipe is just like that. All you need to do is peel and core 6 apples and throw them in your slow cooker with 2 cups of raspberries. Set the slow cooker to high and let it cook for four hours.
If you like smooth applesauce blend in a blender and this also helps the apple sauce not be so seedy. Then serve warm or cold and top with whipped cream or vanilla ice cream. I found that coconut whipped cream was an amazing topping.
Enjoy,
